Getting started

What is Cookify?

Cookify is a Shopify app that adds a cookie consent banner to your online store. It asks visitors which cookies they accept, holds analytics and marketing scripts until they agree, and shares their choice with Shopify and, on the Advanced plan, with Google.

How do I set up Cookify?

After installing, Cookify opens a guided setup. You choose whether visitors can customize categories, add links to your privacy policy and terms, turn on the Cookify app embed in your theme, and activate the banner. Most stores are live in a few minutes.

Do I need to edit my theme code?

No. Cookify runs as a theme app embed, which you switch on in the theme editor. Turning the embed off removes the banner completely, and your theme files are never changed.

Which themes does Cookify work with?

Cookify works with any Shopify theme that supports app embeds, which includes all Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn. Headless storefronts built with Hydrogen or another custom frontend are not supported.

Will Cookify slow down my store?

Cookify’s scripts are small, minified files that Shopify’s CDN serves through the app embed. The banner loads its settings with one request through your store’s own domain (Shopify’s app proxy), and the result is cached for a few minutes per browsing session. A small blocker script runs first in the page head so it can hold back trackers until the visitor consents. That early load is deliberate, and it’s what makes the blocking work.

Compliance

Does Cookify make my store GDPR compliant?

Cookify gives you the consent tools that privacy laws such as the GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive expect. Known trackers are held until the visitor consents, and visitors can choose by category. Reject all sits next to Accept all on the first screen. It’s on by default, and the app warns you if you hide it. Visitors can change their choice later.

Compliance also depends on your privacy policy, the apps and tags you use, and how you configure the banner. Cookify isn’t legal advice, so check your setup with a legal professional if you’re unsure.

Plans and billing

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free plan includes the full consent banner in English, every layout, tracker blocking and the Shopify Customer Privacy API connection, with no time limit.

Is there a free trial?

Starter and Advanced include a 7-day free trial. You won’t be charged if you switch back to Free before the trial ends.

How am I billed?

Billing is handled by Shopify. Charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice, monthly or yearly depending on the billing cycle you choose. Paying yearly costs the same as 10 months.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Yes, at any time from the Plans page in the app. Shopify credits the unused part of your current billing period to your store’s bill. If you switch to Free, your texts and translations are kept, so they come back if you upgrade again. Uninstalling Cookify cancels your subscription.

Data and privacy

What data does Cookify store about my visitors?

The visitor’s choice is saved in their browser’s local storage, so the banner doesn’t reappear. Each time a visitor makes a choice, Cookify also records it on its servers, on every plan. The record holds a random visitor ID kept in the visitor’s browser, the action (accept all, reject all or customize), each category, the date and time, the visitor’s country and their browser’s user agent. To find the country, Cookify sends the visitor’s IP address to a geolocation provider (ipapi.co) when the banner loads and when a choice is saved. The IP address itself isn’t stored. You can view the logs on the Advanced plan.

Cookify asks for only one Shopify permission and can’t access your customers, orders or products.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

When you uninstall Cookify, the app deletes your store’s settings, translations and consent logs. The banner stops showing as soon as the app is removed.
