1. Overview

Topline: Announcement Bar (“the App”) is a free Shopify application by ShopOpsy that lets merchants show announcement bars on their online store. This policy explains what data the App handles, why, and how it is deleted.

In short: the App stores your bar settings and what Shopify needs to keep you signed in. It never collects data about your customers or your store’s visitors.

2. Data we collect

Merchant data

When you install the App, we store the following, linked to your store’s myshopify domain:

Shop domain: to know which store the data belongs to.
Session and access tokens: issued by Shopify so the App can save your bars to your store. Stored with Shopify’s official session storage.
Announcement bars: the content you create: bar names, message texts, link texts and URLs, colors, fonts, positions, schedules and page targeting.
App preferences: whether you hid the setup guide or dismissed a suggestion card on the App’s home page, and an internal data version number.
Attribution removal: if you buy the optional one-time removal of the ShopOpsy icon, the date Shopify confirmed it. Payments are handled entirely by Shopify; the App never sees card or billing details.

The App requests no access scopes: it cannot read your products, orders or customers.

Customer and visitor data

The App does not collect, store or process personal data of your customers or of visitors to your store.

The bar on your storefront is built entirely from data already in your theme (an app-data metafield). It sends no requests to our servers or to anyone else: no analytics, no impression or click counting, no tracking pixels.
The App sets no cookies.
Unless you removed it, the bar shows a small ShopOpsy icon. It is drawn inside the page and is not a link: nothing is loaded or sent when the page is viewed.
When a visitor closes a bar, their own browser remembers it for the current tab in sessionStorage, under the key ab-closed:<bar id> with the value 1. It contains no identifier, is never sent to us or to anyone, and disappears when the tab is closed. It is strictly necessary to honor the visitor’s request to close the bar.

Because no customer data is stored, the App holds nothing to return or erase for Shopify’s customer data requests.

3. How we use your data

Only to provide the App: to show and edit your bars in the Shopify admin and to publish them to your storefront. We do not sell, rent or share your data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling. We do not send marketing emails from the App.

4. Where data is stored

The App runs on Vercel and stores data in a PostgreSQL database hosted by our database provider. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
Your active bars are also stored in your store as an app-data metafield, which only the App can read or write and which is not visible to other apps.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your data is kept while the App is installed.
When you uninstall the App, all of your store’s data is deleted from our database: bars, messages, preferences and sessions. Shopify removes the app-data metafield together with the installation.
Shopify also sends a shop data erasure request (shop/redact) 48 hours after uninstall, and the App deletes anything that is left.

6. GDPR and privacy webhooks

The App supports Shopify’s mandatory privacy webhooks:

Customer data request: the App stores no customer data, so there is nothing to report.
Customer data erasure: the App stores no customer data, so there is nothing to erase.
Shop data erasure: all data for the shop is permanently deleted.

7. Third-party services

Shopify: the App uses the Shopify Admin API to save your bars to your store.
Hosting: Vercel (application) and our PostgreSQL provider (database), which process merchant data on our behalf, only to run the App.

The App does not use analytics, advertising or tracking services, in the admin or on your storefront. The App’s home page may show a card about another ShopOpsy app; it is a plain link with campaign (UTM) parameters, it loads nothing from third parties and it can be dismissed for good.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Changes will be published on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
