Doorcheck: Age Verification is a Shopify app that shows a popup asking visitors to confirm their age before they browse your store. Depending on the method you choose, visitors answer with Yes and No buttons, tick a checkbox or enter their date of birth.

Install the app from the Shopify App Store and open it. Click Open theme editor, switch on the “Age Verification” app embed and save. Then choose how visitors confirm their age and set the text, colors and pages in the app’s settings. To check the result, open your store in a private window.

No. Doorcheck runs as a theme app embed, which you switch on in the theme editor. Your theme files are never changed, and turning the embed off removes the popup.

Doorcheck works with any Shopify theme that supports app embeds, which includes all Online Store 2.0 themes such as Dawn. Headless storefronts built with Hydrogen or another custom frontend are not supported.

The popup is a small script that Shopify loads through the app embed after your page content. It reads your popup settings with one request through your store’s own domain (Shopify’s app proxy) and keeps them in the browser for up to 5 minutes, so it doesn’t download them on every page.

You choose one of three methods: Yes and No buttons, a checkbox the visitor ticks before continuing, or their date of birth. With the date of birth method, the date is compared with the minimum age you set inside the visitor’s browser. It is never sent to Doorcheck, to Shopify or to anyone else, and it isn’t stored.

Yes. You can add your logo, set the colors of the popup and its buttons, choose the color and opacity of the overlay behind it, and write every text, including the message for visitors who answer No. Because you write the text, it can be in any language. The popup shows the same text in every language of your store.

A live preview in the app shows your changes before you save them.

Yes. Show it on every page, or only on the pages you list, one rule per line. For example, /products/wine matches that page only, and /collections/wine/* matches that collection and every page below it. Language prefixes such as /fr are ignored, so a rule also covers the other language versions of a page.

For the number of days you choose (30 by default), or only until the visitor closes their browser. The answer is kept in a first-party cookie in the visitor’s browser, so they aren’t asked again on every page.

Visitors who answer No, or whose date of birth is under your minimum age, see a title and message you write. If you set a page to send them to, they are taken there next.

Yes. Keyboard focus stays inside the popup until the visitor answers, and returns to the page afterwards. Screen readers announce the popup’s title and message. For visitors who turn on reduced motion in their system settings, the popup appears without an animation.

No. Doorcheck asks visitors to confirm their own age. It doesn’t verify identity or age, and it doesn’t replace any legal age-verification requirement. Rules differ by country and product, so check which ones apply to your store.

No. It asks the visitor for more than a Yes button does, but the date is still their own statement. It isn’t compared with an ID document or any other record.

Doorcheck is free to install, with every feature included. There are no plans, no subscription and no trial.

The popup shows a small ShopOpsy icon in its bottom corner, 24 × 24 px with no text. It isn’t a link, and it sends no data.

If you prefer the popup without it, Remove the icon for $9.99 in the app’s Settings asks Shopify to approve a one-time charge of $9.99. Once approved, the icon is removed for good on your store, and it stays removed if you reinstall the app within 48 hours.

Only what it needs for your store: your shop domain, the access token Shopify issues to the app, your popup settings and uploaded images, daily totals of how often the popup was shown, passed and refused (if statistics are on), which in-app notices you closed, and any purchase or policy-writing order you make in the app. Doorcheck stores no data about your customers or visitors.

If you contact us through the support chat in the app’s admin pages, the conversation is handled by Crisp, not stored by Doorcheck.

One. When a visitor confirms their age, the answer is saved in a first-party cookie named soav_age_verified that holds only the minimum age the visitor confirmed, such as 18. It contains no personal data and is never read by Doorcheck’s servers. The browser also keeps a copy of your popup settings in session storage for up to 5 minutes.

Doorcheck uses no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking. Its statistics are anonymous daily totals, with no identifier and no cookie.

The app’s access token is deleted as soon as you uninstall. Your settings are kept for 48 hours in case you reinstall. After that, Shopify sends a shop data erasure request and Doorcheck permanently deletes everything it holds for your store.
